Rakes
Rakes are agricultural and horticultural tools that consist, simply, of a toothed bar and handle. Rakes are used to collect leaves, hay, grass for dispensing, and also used in gardening for loosening soil, weeding and leveling. The word rakes comes from an Old English term meaning to “scrape up”.
Types Of Rakes
There are many types of rakes to choose from. A rake can be plain and inexpensive, combine certain features or be made out of more functional material. There are bamboo rakes, plastic garden rakes, steel rakes (that is the teeth or tines) not to mention more antiquated material such as iron or wood, as the history of the rake tells us. The handle of the rake is usually made out of wood or metal, though sometimes a rubber handle can make the raking experience more comfortable. You can also buy small rakes, garden rakes or lawn rake or larger 48 inch lawn rakes. The pick up leaf rake allows people to rake and deposit leaves without bending or getting your hands too dirty. There are also rakes that have longer teeth and are shaped like folding fans, or larger pieces that can be mounted on a tractor.

Tips On Leaf Raking
Though many people rake leaves through technology, namely using leaf blowers, many people consider raking leaves the old fashioned way more efficient. While leaf blowers do save on time and effort, the advantages of using a leaf rake are: (1) money savings, since leaf rakes are much cheaper; (2) more exercise, which is still scientifically proven to be good for you! (3) more peace and quiet; (4) you can also dethatch the lawn while raking leaves. (Thatching is where you rake up the layer of dead turfgrass tissue between the vegetation and soil) Therefore, when you rake, be sure to rake deeply so that you can remove thatch as well as leaves.
How Much Do Rakes Cost?
How much do rakes cost? You can probably walk into a store and buy a rake off the shelf for less than $40.00. The advantage to this is that you can hold the rake and get a good feel for the tool you are going to be using. However, you may be able to find cheaper savings online – provided you buy in bulk. Sometimes shipping is free if you spend over a certain amount, though if you buy just a rake alone, the shipping price may make the tool more expensive than necessary. Some special rake tools for tractors can be as high as $800.00!
The raking experience lets you enjoy the great outdoors while cleaning house.
