Hoses

Hoses are hollow tubes that carry fluids from one location to the other – you guessed it, water! At least in this context of gardening. Hoses can be rigid tubes, sometimes called pipes, or flexible hoses, the kind that gardeners are used to dragging around the house. As opposed to way back when, hoses today are made from special grade polyethylene which is durable material designed for the gardener's convenience. Hoes are used to water plants directly or to convey water to a sprinkler for lighter watering. Some gardeners have wisely observed that spraying hoses directly into a pot or part of soil can damage the plants. Hence, they will either fill up water cans with hoses, use sprinkler systems or buy special clamps, spigots or nozzles to control the hose pressure.

Types Of Hose Parts And What They Do

A garden hose is the most common form of hose and obviously has a way of over-watering plants if it is allowed to spray at full speed. For this reason, hose clamps might be used. A hose clamp is used to attach and seal a water hose into a fitting like a hose barb. This type of product also includes spring hose clamps. A hose reel is a length of hollow plastic or rubber material with a nozzle on the end that connects to a water supply. Hose reels are used to move water from one place to the other, (rolling up hose length) and are often used in gardening, as well as other industries. A garden hose reel can also be retractable and come in a variety of colors. One example of this is the rapid reel GH164-PD perpendicular wall hose garden.

There is also a rubber hose, made of synthetic rubber and reinforced with internal fibers. Whether soft plastic or rubber, the external material as well as the internal fibers allows the hose to be flexible and easily pulled even past trees, rocks, posts and other yard obstacles without being torn.

A high pressure hose is a thicker hose that pressurizes the water so that it can be sprayed at a greater strength. It is similar in design to a fire house, although fire hoses are usually only attached to fire engines or hydrants, or plumbing systems. A hose pump, also called a high pressure peristaltic pump, is used to pump a variety of fluids, including water. Lower pressure pumps are called tube pumps and generally do not have lubricated casings or reinforced tubing.
